Xiaomi's first three Leica camera phones are coming on July 4
- Xiaomi has announced the name of its first smartphone series with Leica-branded cameras.
- The Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra will debut in China on July 4.
Xiaomi and German camera maker Leica announced a long-term strategic partnership last month. The first fruits of that tie-up will be coming next month in the form of the Xiaomi 12S series.
The Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, and 12S Ultra will debut in China on July 4. The company has announced that all three devices will come equipped with camera tech from Leica.
The baseline Xiaomi 12S will be a small-sized, high-end flagship. The 12S Pro will be a more premium version. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be the top-of-the-line flagship, which the company has deemed (machine translated) as a “new height of mobile imaging flagship.”
Xiaomi also posted a teaser image showing the three phones with what looks like a huge camera housing at the back. Check it out below.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra could be the previously rumored Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Leaked specs of the phone include a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, a 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz LTPO OLED display, a 4,800mAh battery with 50W wireless charging, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage.
On the camera front, the device is said to feature a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 48MP ultrawide camera, a 48MP 5x periscope camera, a time-of-flight sensor, and laser autofocus.
We’ll have to wait and see if this is indeed Xiaomi’s next superphone with the Leica camera smarts. The good news is we don’t have to hold our breath for too long.
