Xiaomi launches Mi A2 with high-end camera hardware and Android One in India
After last year’s Mi A1, Xiaomi‘s first smartphone to support Google’s Android One platform, the company recently unveiled not one, but two successors of the Mi A1, the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite. While Xiaomi skipped Mi A2 Lite for India, the Mi A2 was launched in India today.
The Mi A2 comes in two memory variants – 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage or with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Here’s everything you want to know about the Xiaomi’s latest device.
Android One
Like the Mi A1, the Mi A2 will support Android One, which means that they will offer pure stock Android experience instead of Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI skin. The phone comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and will be supported with monthly security updates. They will also support Google’s Project Treble, which should allow the Mi A2 to receive new Android feature updates faster.
At the launch event, the company did not share any timeline for the Android 9 Pie upgrade though. A Google representative confirmed that the Mi A2 will be one of the first devices to get Android Pie later this year.
Impressive camera hardware
The highlight of the Mi A2 is its dual rear cameras with a 20MP primary sensor with a ƒ/1.75 aperture and support for Super Pixel technology. That means that when you take a picture with this camera, it will combine information from four pixels to form one large 2.0µm pixel — said to offer clear and sharp images even in low-light. The second rear sensor comes in at 12MP, with 1.25µm pixel size and ƒ/1.75 aperture.
There’s also the 20MP front-facing camera with a ƒ/2.2 aperture and support for Super Pixel technology with a 4500K front-facing selfie-light too.
