The stunning Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha has a 180.6% screen-to-body ratio
Xiaomi thinks the future of smartphones is wraparound displays. The company just announced the Mi Mix Alpha and its screen wraps around its edges and goes to the back, achieving a screen-to-body ratio of 180.6%. Of course, this crazy-high number is achieved by some creative interpretation of what the screen-to-body ratio means. But that doesn’t take away from Xiaomi’s impressive achievement.

Mi Mix Alpha features a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage, and a 4,050mAh battery with 40W fast charging.
It comes with a 108MP camera on the back, as well as a 20MP and a 12MP one. Because you can simply turn the phone and use the camera on its back, the phone lacks a front-facing camera.
Xiaomi said it uses AI and special sensors to disable unwanted touches on the sides of the device. A newly developed haptic motor provides tactile feedback to the phone’s software-based volume keys. The sides of the phone can display notifications and status icons.
The “stripe” on the back of the device, which houses the camera, is made of ceramic and is covered with sapphire glass to protect it from scratches. The frame of the device is made of titanium.
Xiaomi said the Mi Mix Alpha will be a limited edition made under small production runs. It’s a phone made for “hardcore fans” so you won’t be surprised to hear it costs a pretty penny: 20,000 yuan (~$2,800).
We’re just learning what the Mi Mix Alpha is about, but one thing is clear right now. This is the coolest design on the market right now.
