Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha confirmed: Waterfall screen or foldable?
Xiaomi confirmed earlier this month that it’s launching the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and a Mi Mix device next week. We already know a lot about the Mi 9 Pro, but we’re only just starting to learn about the Mi Mix.
Xiaomi has announced on Weibo that the new phone is known as the Mi Mix Alpha, and an attached teaser image gives us a look at the screen (sort of). Check it out below.
The image seems to suggest that the Alpha will be equipped with a waterfall display of sorts, with the curved edges dramatically dropping off the sides.
I’m leaning towards it being a waterfall screen, but it’s possible that the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha is a foldable phone, and that we’re looking at the area of the screen that folds back. This could be a commercial version of the Xiaomi foldable phone demonstrated earlier this year, with the sides folding away.
Either way, Xiaomi teases that the Alpha will tout “new screen technology” and a 100% screen/body ratio. We also know that the firm has touted 5G capabilities for both devices.
Xiaomi’s Mi 9 Pro 5G doesn’t seem like a slouch either, and it’s expected to offer a Snapdragon 855 Plus, 48MP triple rear camera setup and a 4,000mAh battery. The Chinese brand has also confirmed that the Mi 9 Pro 5G will offer 40W wired charging (charging the phone in 48 minutes), 30W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
