Sony confirms Lollipop for core Xperia Z2 and Z3 devices in early 2015
Sony has confirmed, through Twitter, that Android Lollipop updates for its latest Xperia devices will arrive at the beginning of next year. We originally heard suggestions of an early 2015 release date back in October.
The tweet states that it is the “core” Xperia Z2 and Z3 series that are in line for the update. It is a little unclear whether or not this includes the full range of Compact or Tablet variants of the ranges, but previous comments from Sony suggest that these devices are included in the core line-up. Although, this most likely rules out the likes of the Z3V and suggests that modified versions of the extended Xperia series might also be in for a longer wait than the core devices in the range. At the very least, two of Sony’s flagship smartphones should receive Lollipop soon.

Sony has been very open about its update plans and has already confirmed that Lollipop will be arriving on a large number of its Xperia Z smartphones, eventually. The company has also been working hard to allow customers to flash AOSP Lollipop builds on their Xperia handsets while they wait for Sony’s OEM tweaked version.
While the beginning of 2015 still isn’t a specific timetable, Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3 owners can rest assured that Lollipop will be with them within the next couple of months.
