YouTube plays whack-a-mole, fixes another annoying account issue
Sep 17, 2026 — 7:20 AM ET

- YouTube and YouTube TV briefly had issues with sign-ups and subscription management.
- Some users saw errors when trying to add packages or change existing subscriptions.
- Google says the issue is fixed, but users still having trouble should refresh the app or browser.
YouTube just closed the book on a sign-in bug that locked some people out of the app on smart TVs and gaming consoles. That issue was fixed earlier this week, but another account-related problem surfaced soon after. This time, the trouble hit people trying to sign up for or change paid subscriptions across YouTube and YouTube TV — and Google says it has already fixed that too.
In a community post, YouTube said some users ran into errors or failed dialog boxes when trying to sign up, add packages, or modify existing subscriptions. The company said it was investigating the issue, but didn’t identify the cause or say how many people were affected.
We’re aware that some of you are experiencing an issue where users may encounter errors or failed dialogs when attempting to sign up, add packages, or modify subscriptions on YouTube and YouTube TV.
A few hours later, Google updated the post to mark the incident as fixed. Users should once again be able to sign up, add packages, or make changes to YouTube and YouTube TV subscriptions without hitting those errors. Google recommends refreshing the browser or app if the problem still appears.
This issue is now fixed! You should now be able to sign up, add packages, or make changes to your YouTube and YouTube TV subscriptions without encountering errors. If you still run into any trouble, try refreshing your browser or app.
The outage appears to have been relatively limited. We couldn’t find a noticeable wave of matching complaints across social media or YouTube’s community forums from the past day. Recent subscription-related posts mostly concern separate issues such as country verification, billing, or individual account problems.
Still, Google’s public acknowledgment confirms this wasn’t simply a handful of users mistaking a declined card or account restriction for a service problem. Subscription management is especially important on YouTube TV, where users can change plans and add or remove paid networks and packages.

This is also the second YouTube account-related issue Google has resolved within days. Earlier this week, a separate bug prevented some viewers from signing into YouTube on TVs and game consoles, with affected users reporting problems across several TV brands and consoles.
For now, both issues are marked as fixed. If subscription changes still fail, Google recommends refreshing YouTube or YouTube TV first.
