It's not just you: YouTube and YouTube Music are acting up for some users

Millions of people around the world use YouTube and YouTube Music for their media fix. As you would expect, a platform that large is not always perfect. We recently reported on a blank feed bug on the YouTube app, which Google fixed this week. It now looks like YouTube’s issues didn’t end there, with another problem now appearing online.

According to a Reddit post by an understandably angry user, both the YouTube and YouTube Music apps “hang while loading.” They note the issue persists even after deleting and reinstalling the apps and clearing their cache.

More concerningly, they’ve reportedly been facing this problem for “months.” A quick look at the comments indicates this isn’t an isolated incident, with some facing similar trouble viewing videos on PC.

Looking around Reddit for other complaints, we found one user saying they can’t play videos more than two years old on the Android app, with another chiming in that they can’t play any videos at all on the iOS app. These separate user reports across multiple platforms suggest this may be a broader issue.

Over at the YouTube Music subreddit, one person reports a completely blank home page on the web version (pictured above). However, we’re not seeing too many reports of this just yet. For what it’s worth, both the YouTube Music and standard YouTube apps on mobile and web appear to be functioning normally on a few of our devices.

Since it’s hard to replicate this particular bug on our own, it’s difficult to determine the root cause. In the meantime, we’ve reached out to the YouTube team for a comment on what appears to be a pretty annoying issue with its popular apps. We’ll provide an update if we hear anything back.
